How Much Ashes Do You Need To Make Jewellery?

I get asked this more than almost anything else — and I completely understand why. The thought of sending away someone’s ashes feels enormous. So let me put your mind at rest straight away.

You only need a teaspoon. That’s it. A teaspoon is more than enough for me to make a dozen pieces, because I choose carefully from what you send — selecting the right grain size and colour for your piece. And every last grain that isn’t used comes straight back to you. Nothing is kept, nothing is discarded.

I make the following pieces

Every last grain comes back to you

I have no need to keep or discard what I don’t use — and I wouldn’t dream of it. Once your piece is made, all remaining ash is carefully packaged and returned to you with your commission.

In the workshop, everyone who works here has lost someone they loved. We handle every single delivery with the same care we’d want for our own.

  • — A teaspoon is enough for a dozen pieces
  • — All unused ash is returned to you
  • — You’re in the safest of hands here — I’m the longest-established maker of bespoke memorial jewellery in the UK
  • How do I know you will use my ash in my piece of jewellery?

I understand why you’re asking. It’s a question that comes from a place of deep trust, and you deserve a straight answer.

Your ashes arrive labelled with your name and your loved one’s name. They’re stored securely until it’s time to make your piece — and I work on one commission at a time. There’s no stockpile, no mixing, no shortcuts. Your loved one’s ashes go into your jewellery. That’s simply how I work.

I’ve been doing this for over 20 years. My reputation is everything to me. You’re in the safest of hands.

What happens to the ashes when they arrive?

The moment your ashes arrive, I send you an email to let you know they’re here. They’re checked in, labelled with your name and your loved one’s name, and stored securely until I’m ready to begin your piece.

I work on one piece at a time, so there’s no possibility of any mix-up. When your commission is complete, everything — your jewellery and all unused ash — is prepared together and sent back to you. Your loved one’s ashes never leave the premises until they’re on their way home to you.

Not ready to order yet? That’s absolutely fine.

You might still be deciding what piece feels right. You might not even have the ashes yet. Whatever the reason, you’re welcome to request a sending pack in advance — completely free of charge.

When you’re ready, everything you need will already be there waiting.

So please feel free to order a pack in advance for FREE.
