Because I personally handcraft every piece in my Kent workshop, the process generally takes 6-8 weeks from the moment I receive your prints. This timeline allows for the meticulous engraving, hallmarking, and hand-polishing required for a high-quality finish. If you have a fast-approaching wedding or a specific deadline, please get in touch—I always do my best to accommodate urgent requests for special occasions.

Capturing the Perfect Print: A Simple Guide
I am not a fan of the ink kits, they can create more smudges than they are worth. They also come with a small cost and impact on the planet for a one use item.
Simply watch my short video here, in one minute it will walk you through how anybody can quickly take a print at home using three items. A HB pencil, some sellotape and apiece of paper. Its quick, idiot proof and free, or read the advice below.
How to Capture the Perfect Fingerprint for Your Cufflinks
Taking a high-quality fingerprint at home is simpler than you might think. Whether you are creating a unique wedding gift or a sentimental memorial, the clarity of the print ensures the finest detail in the final engraving. You don’t need professional equipment—just a few household items and sixty seconds.
Three Simple Steps to a Great Print
I have refined my process over 25 years at the bench to make it as easy as possible for you.
1. The Materials: All you need is a soft HB pencil, a scrap of white paper, and a piece of clear sticky tape (Sellotape works perfectly).
2. The Process: Rub a dark, solid patch of pencil lead onto your paper. Rub your finger (back and forth) firmly onto the pencil mark until the tip is evenly coated. Then, gently press your darkened finger onto the sticky side of the tape.
3. The Result: Stick that tape onto a clean sheet of white paper. You will see a high-contrast, detailed map of the fingerprint ridges—this is exactly what I need to begin handcrafting your cufflinks.
Chris’s Expert Tip: For the best results, use the "fleshy" part of the finger rather than the very tip. Capture a child's print while they are relaxed or sleeping to ensure the clearest detail without smudging.
Sending Your Prints to the Workshop
Once you have captured the print, there is no need to navigate complicated forms or expensive postage. Simply take a clear, well-lit photo of the paper with your smartphone and email it to me after checkout. Or pop it in the post.
I personally review every print that comes into my Kent workshop. If I feel the print isn't clear enough to meet my high standards for your gold or silver cufflinks, I will reach out to you personally to help you get a better one.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fingerprint Jewellery
How long does it take to handcraft my fingerprint cufflinks?
Can you create cufflinks from a deceased loved one’s prints?
Yes, I frequently work with memorial prints. I can use digital photos of ink prints taken by funeral homes, or even clear images of fingerprints found on old documents or IDs. If the print is faint, I use my 25 years of experience to digitally enhance the ridges before engraving, ensuring the final piece is a dignified and lasting tribute. Keeping a loved one’s essence with you during life’s big moments, like a wedding or anniversary, provides a powerful sense of connection.
What is the difference between Sterling Silver and 9ct Gold for cufflinks?
Both metals are excellent choices for heirloom jewellery, but they offer different benefits:
Sterling Silver: A classic, bright choice that is perfect for occasional wear, such as weddings and formal events. I use high-quality silver that takes a deep, crisp engraving.
9ct Gold (Yellow or White): This is a denser, harder-wearing metal. If you intend to wear your cufflinks daily or want a piece that will be passed down through multiple generations without wear, gold is the ultimate investment.
Are these cufflinks suitable for a child’s fingerprint?
Absolutely. While an adult's fingerprint has deeper, more defined ridges, I can successfully capture a child’s print. For very young babies (under 12 months), the fingerprint ridges are often not yet fully developed. In these cases, many parents choose a handprint or footprint instead, which I can also engrave onto the same oval or square cufflink shapes.
How do I care for my personalised jewellery?
To keep your engravings looking sharp, I recommend cleaning your cufflinks with a soft polishing cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners, which can dull the natural luster of the metal over time. When not in use, storing them in the provided gift box will prevent scratches and keep the silver from tarnishing.
