 Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does An Ashes Necklace Cost?

£90 to £3,000 or more. There is a wide range of costs to have your ashes expertly made into an ashes necklace.  This depends on the metal you choose and the complexity of the design.

I work in all the precious metals, 925 sterling silver, solid 9k golds, solid 18k golds and platinum. All of my jewelry is priced, so please browse my website for relevant costs.

In addition some pieces have gemstones set. These might be the cheaper semi precious gemstones like cubic zirconia, amethyst or topaz, amongst others. Or you might have precious gemstones et, emerald, sapphire, ruby or diamonds.

The pieces on this website are all priced but you can also commission your own custom bespoke piece of jewellery. In which case you have control over the budget and materials.

Your last option is to have your old jewellery recycled into something new including some cremated ashes. The cost here typically starts at £390 for a simple piece and quotes are given on more complex designs.

How Much Ashes Are Needed To Make A Diamond?

One teaspoons' worth of ashes are required to make a piece of cremation jewellery.

There are four main ways to make cremation jewellery. To set them in a diamond, resin, glass and the metal itself. I make jewellery using the resin, glass and metal techniques.

Whilst it is technically possible to make a diamond from cremation ashes, I am near 100% sceptical that there are actually any companies out there actually providing this service. If you do a deep dive into any of their websites. You will typically find that their lab is in a secure secret location and you can't visit it. You can of course visit their showroom in some town/city.

How do you make diamonds from ashes?

You start with a seed "real" diamond. You then need to purify the ashes into carbon only. the ashes once processed are packed in volume around the seed diamond. This package is then inserted into a machine that replicates the inside of a volcano. Extreme temperatures and pressure are required. The carbon reforms around the seed diamond and grows in size. The larger the new diamond, the longer it takes and more expensive. This new gemstone is then a rough stone and requires cutting to the desired size. So a large portion of the formed stone is lost in cutting to create the new diamond gemstone.

I don't know about you, if I had a machine that could make diamonds from ashes. I would put it in a glass room and do tours around it. If you are searching for a diamond made from ashes, just  be super cautious.

You might end up paying an inflated price for a regular diamond.

Is It OK To Keep Ashes In A Necklace?

Yes, It is perfectly OK to wear ashes in a necklace. Many folk like the thought of keeping some of their loved one close to their heart.

If you are considering keeping ashes in a necklace, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, you will need to choose an ashes necklace that is well made in a metal of your choice, 925 sterling silver, 9ct gold, 18ct gold,  and platinum are all good choices. Second, you will need to make sure that the necklace is sealed tightly so that the ashes cannot leak out. Finally, you will need to be aware of the potential for the ashes to become damaged or lost. Like any piece of jewellery, it is possible.

If you have decided that keeping ashes in a necklace is the right choice for you, there are a few things you can do to make the experience more meaningful. You may want to choose a necklace with a design that has special meaning to you or your loved one.You can also include their fingerprint or handwriting in the design. You may also want to have the ashes blessed by a religious leader if that is your thing.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to keep ashes in a necklace is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. If you feel that this is a way to honour your loved one, then it is the right choice for you.

What Jewelry Can Be Made From Ashes?

I can pretty much make you any piece of jewellery to contain some of your loved one's ashes. These bereavement pieces can be anything from ashes rings, ash necklaces, cremation ash cufflinks, ash bracelets, ash charms, ash beads, ash earrings, ash bangles, and broaches & lapel pins.

Can I Get My Ashes Necklace Wet?

Yes. My ash jewellery will not be impacted by occasional water. However, it is not wise to wear cremation jewellery if you are scuba diving, as the pressure on an enclosed void could cause issues. It is recommended to remove jewellery in swimming pools, and jacuzzi's as these contain chemicals that could tarnish the metal. Likewise, the excess heat in a sauna.

How Much Ashes Do You Need To Make A Memorial Necklace?

One teaspoon's worth of ash is required to make your mourning jewellery. We only use a small pinch in most pieces, and all unused ash is returned. We look after your ash as if it were our own.

Can I Have More Than One Ashes In My Ashes Pendant?

Yes, I frequently make pieces of jewellery that contain more than one set of ashes. Perhaps Gran and Grandad, or you've just lost a couple of pets.

How Long does It Take To Make An Ashes Necklace?

I offer a unique service, handmaking unique pieces of jewellery in the UK for my clients. This process does take a short while, and I am in great demand. I have a small team that work for me, and we can run at anything from 4-8 weeks. Under the "Add To Cart" button, you will see the "Estimated Completion Date".

Is It Jewellery or Jewelry?

Both. Jewellery is the British spelling of the word, and jewelry is used worldwide. I serve clients from across the globe, and some of those will search for the word "Jewelry", so it helps to have it on my website for search engines, such as Google. There is no point being a UK word purist if you end up losing business because of it!

Can I Have My Old Jewellery Recycled Into An Ashes Pendant?

Yes, I would be delighted to talk through your requirements and recycle your jewellery into a new piece. Prices typically start from £390. I can give a quote based on the many variables that your project is likely to have.

Can You Wear A Necklace With Ashes In The Shower?

Yes, (and no) my necklaces are OK to get wet however...

You may wish to remove the necklace in swimming pools, jacuzzis and whilst showering. Swimming pools and such like have chemicals added to them and those chemicals might tarnish silver or otherwise react with some gemstones, resins or glass.

The same might be true of a beauty product used whilst showering, even shampoos and soaps. It is not possible to create a safe list of bathing products that won't tarnish silver or otherwise affect jewellery, so it is best as a precaution to remove all jewellery. Whilst th e risk os low, it is not possible to issue a 100% guarantee that some chemical you will use whilst bathing, won't affect your jewellery. If in doubt please speak to a jeweller about your cremation ashes jewellery.

Why Not Keep Ashes At Home?

Is it bad to keep ashes in the home? A simple and resounding NO from my perspective.

Whether keeping ashes in the home is "bad" depends on personal beliefs and cultural practices. There's no inherent right or wrong, but here are some things to consider:

Sentimentality: For many, keeping ashes is a way to feel close to a loved one who has passed. It can be a source of comfort and connection.

Cultural traditions: Some cultures have specific rituals or customs surrounding ashes, which may involve keeping them in a certain place or using them in ceremonies.

Practical considerations: Ashes can be delicate and require careful handling. You'll need to choose a suitable container and decide on a placement that feels respectful and secure.

Alternatives: Some people opt for scattering ashes in a meaningful location, burying them in a cemetery, or incorporating them into jewelry or other keepsakes.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to keep ashes in the home is a personal one. There's no right or wrong answer, and the most important thing is to do what feels right for you and your loved ones.

Here are some additional tips for keeping ashes in the home:

  • Choose a sturdy and airtight container to prevent spills or dust.
  • Place the container in a respectful and dignified location, such as on a mantelpiece or in a dedicated urn space.
  • Keep the container away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • If you have concerns about allergies or sensitivities, consider consulting with a doctor or funeral director.

We hope this information helps!
