There are four main ways to make cremation jewellery. To set them in a diamond, resin, glass and the metal itself. I make jewellery using the resin, glass and metal techniques. 

Whilst it is technically possible to make a diamond from cremation ashes, I am near 100% sceptical that there are actually any companies out there actually providing this service. If you do a deep dive into any of their websites. You will typically find that their lab is in a secure secret location and you can't visit it. You can of course visit their showroom in some town/city.

How do you make diamonds from ashes?

You start with a seed "real" diamond. You then need to purify the ashes into carbon only. the ashes once processed are packed in volume around the seed diamond. This package is then inserted into a machine that replicates the inside of a volcano. Extreme temperatures and pressure are required. The carbon reforms around the seed diamond and grows in size. The larger the new diamond, the longer it takes and more expensive. This new gemstone is then a rough stone and requires cutting to the desired size. So a large portion of the formed stone is lost in cutting to create the new diamond gemstone.

I don't know about you, if I had a machine that could make diamonds from ashes. I would put it in a glass room and do tours around it. If you are searching for a diamond made from ashes, just  be super cautious.

You might end up paying an inflated price for a regular diamond.

It is recommended to remove jewellery in swimming pools, and jacuzzi's as these contain chemicals that could tarnish the metal. Likewise, the excess heat in a sauna.

You may wish to remove the necklace in swimming pools, jacuzzis and whilst showering. Swimming pools and such like have chemicals added to them and those chemicals might tarnish silver or otherwise react with some gemstones, resins or glass.

The same might be true of a beauty product used whilst showering, even shampoos and soaps. It is not possible to create a safe list of bathing products that won't tarnish silver or otherwise affect jewellery, so it is best as a precaution to remove all jewellery. Whilst th e risk os low, it is not possible to issue a 100% guarantee that some chemical you will use whilst bathing, won't affect your jewellery. If in doubt please speak to a jeweller about your cremation ashes jewellery.

Is it bad to keep ashes in the home? A simple and resounding NO from my perspective.
