FAQ Frequently Asked Questions About Cremation Ash Rings & Memorial Rings

Can I wear my cremation ash necklace every day?

Yes — and many of my customers do exactly that. The pendant itself is solid and built to last, but the best advice is to treat it as you would any precious jewellery: take it off before bed, heavy exercise, or anything that risks a knock or snag. The more you wear it, the more it becomes part of you — that’s exactly what it’s made for.

Can cremation ash necklaces get wet?

Plain water won’t damage the pendant, but I’d recommend removing it before showering, swimming, or bathing. It’s not the water itself that causes problems — it’s the chemicals in shampoos, soaps, pool chlorine, and sea salt that can tarnish sterling silver and affect the resin setting over time. A few splashes are nothing to worry about; daily immersion isn’t ideal.

How much cremation ash is needed to make a necklace?

Just a teaspoon — that’s all I need, and in practice I use considerably less. I’ll send you a small ash pack when you order, including a biodegradable bamboo spoon and a pre-paid return envelope. Whatever isn’t used is carefully returned to you with your finished piece.

How long does a cremation ash necklace take to make?

Please check just above the “Add to Basket” button for the current estimated completion date — this updates as my order book changes. I work alone in my Kent workshop and every piece is made by hand from scratch, so I won’t rush what deserves care. Good things come to those who wait, and many clients tell me it was worth every day.

    What metals are available?

I make cremation ash necklaces in sterling silver, 9ct white, yellow and rose gold, 18ct white, yellow and rose gold, and platinum. The metal you choose changes the look and feel of the piece considerably — if you’re unsure, I’m happy to advise. Sterling silver is the most popular choice; gold gives a warmer, more heirloom quality.

Can I add an inscription to my necklace?

Yes — most of my necklace designs can be inscribed on the reverse. Up to 15 characters works well; short phrases, a name, a date, or initials are all popular choices. If you’re unsure what to write, my blog post on [inscription ideas for memorial jewellery] has over 100 suggestions to help.

Can I use pet ashes as well as human ashes?

Absolutely. Pet cremation ashes work in exactly the same way — they’re chemically the same material. Whether you’ve lost a dog, a cat, or any other beloved companion, the process is identical. Many of my most treasured commissions have been for pets. Browse the pet ashes necklace designs here.

Can you make a necklace with hair instead of ashes?

Yes, I can incorporate hair into most pendant designs using the same techniques. It works especially well in resin settings and is a lovely alternative for those who prefer it, or want to combine a little hair with ashes in a single piece. Just mention this when ordering and I’ll advise on the best approach for the design you’ve chosen.

Is it possible to have ashes made into a necklace using my own old gold or silver?

Yes — this is something I love doing. If you have old jewellery sitting unworn in a drawer, I can remodel it into a new piece and incorporate the cremation ashes as part of the design. Prices vary depending on complexity; get in touch and I’ll give you a quote.

Will anyone know I’m wearing cremation ash jewellery?

Only if you choose to tell them. My pieces are designed to be beautiful first and memorial second — there’s nothing to mark them out from any other handmade pendant. Many of my customers wear them every day without anyone knowing. That quiet closeness is part of what makes them so meaningful.
