Ashes Jewellery

I believe that ash jewellery should be as extraordinary as the person it honours. From my quiet workshop in the heart of Kent, I handcraft unique tributes that help you keep your loved ones close to you, wherever you go. Whether you are looking for a ring, necklace, or a set of cufflinks, I combine over two decades of technical skill with your personal story to create a piece you will be proud to wear every single day. My mission is to transform ashes jewellery with the utmost dignity, ensuring that every commission is as enduring as the bond it represents.

Your Ashes Jewellery Made In Recycled Eco-Friendly Quality Materials.

Every piece of ashes jewellery I create uses only recycled precious metals — 925 sterling silver, 9ct gold, 18ct gold, and platinum. I made this commitment because the people I work with are honouring lives lived, and I believe that should extend to how we treat the world they loved. Recycled metals are chemically identical to newly mined ones, with zero compromise in quality or finish. Just a cleaner conscience..

Ashes Jewellery: Frequently Asked Questions

When Did You Start Making Ashes Jewellery?

Twenty-five years ago, a mother came to me with the most heartbreaking of requests. Her little boy, Frankie, had been born asleep. She wanted something to keep him close. I engraved his tiny footprint onto a heart-shaped pendant and set some of his ashes inside it. That was the first piece of ashes jewellery I ever made — and it’s the reason I’ve spent the last quarter century trying to do this work with the care it deserves.

What Types of Ashes Jewellery Can You Make?

You can have ashes jewellery made across the full range of wearable pieces. Here is everything I can make for you:

I handcraft each piece in your choice of 925 sterling silver, 9ct or 18ct gold (yellow, white or red), and platinum. I’m always happy to discuss a completely bespoke commission, or to incorporate your existing jewellery into something new.

How is Cremation Ash Jewellery Made?

Yes — and the process is simpler than most people expect. Once you’ve placed your order, I send you a small prepaid ashes pack. You return just a teaspoon of cremation ashes, and I do the rest. Depending on the design you’ve chosen, I’ll fuse the ashes directly into the metal, set them in resin, suspend them in glass, or incorporate them into a gemstone. Each method creates a different look and feel — if you’d like guidance on which suits your piece best, I’m happy to talk it through during a free consultation.

Every piece is made by hand in my Kent workshop, in precious metals only. All unused ashes are returned to you with your finished piece.

  • Ashes can be added into glass for some designs.

  • Ashes into resin is the most versatile of materials to safely add ashes.

  • I can add ashes directly into the metal of the jewellery piece. A technique I created , which is now being favourably copied by my competitor's.

  • I can add ashes into a specially prepared gemstone. A unique offering, only available here.

How Much Does Ashes Jewellery Cost?

Price rangeDescription
£6.99 - £50Self-filled jewelry made of base metal, steel, or brass. You fill the jewelry with ashes yourself Have a look on Amazon or Ebay
£30 - £300Jewelry made by individuals or companies that do not make their own jewelry pieces. They add ashes to existing jewelry using resin or in the same way as above. The jewelry is typically made of silver or 9k gold. You will find lots of cheaper jewellery, just have a google
£100 - £2,000Jewelry made by real jewellers who make their own jewelry pieces in their own workshop. They can make bespoke pieces or recycle your own jewelry. The price depends on the materials used.

Ashes jewellery ranges from under £10 to several thousand pounds, depending on who makes it and how. Self-filled pieces from Amazon or eBay start at around £6.99 — base metal with a small screw-seal chamber you fill yourself, simple and affordable. The next tier, typically £30–£300, covers individuals or companies who add ashes to ready-made pieces using resin. Worth checking their refund and warranty terms carefully before ordering.

The next option which would cost £30 - £300 is to use an individual or company that does not make their own jewellery pieces, but charge you to add ashes to them using resin or in the same way as above. You can google for that type of service and you will quickly see the quality of the finished pieces that are possible for this type of price range. Just check what their refund and warranty policy is, if anything at all. Typically these individuals will only have access to silver or sometimes 9k golds. You won't find them working in 18k golds or platinum.

Then there are jewellers like me, who make every piece from scratch in their own workshop. That means I can work in 18ct gold and platinum, take on fully bespoke commissions, and recycle your existing jewellery into something new. Prices start from around £100 and reflect the materials and craftsmanship involved — not a mark-up on a mass-produced blank.

How Much Does It Cost to Make Diamonds From Ashes?

Turning cremation ashes into a diamond typically costs between £1,000 and £10,000. However, I’d urge real caution here — there is growing evidence that several companies offering this service are not being transparent with their customers. Multiple independent studies have concluded that it is not possible to recover enough carbon from cremated remains alone to make a diamond, with one company admitting on their own website that the majority of carbon used comes from an external source, not the ashes themselves.

I can’t endorse or recommend any company offering ashes-into-diamonds.

My personal test: if I had a machine capable of turning someone’s loved one’s ashes into a diamond, I’d put it in a glass room, offer tours, and stream it live. What you’ll find instead is that the machines are always in undisclosed locations you can’t visit. Make of that what you will. Buyer beware.

How Much Ashes Do You Need To Make Jewellery?

Just a teaspoon’s worth — and in practice, even less. A small pinch of ash is all that’s needed for a single piece, so one teaspoon could comfortably produce a dozen items. You’ll never need to send more than that, and every grain of unused ash is returned to you with your finished piece.

How Much Ashes Do You Need To Make A Ring?

Just a teaspoons' worth of ash is required. Actually only a pinch is required to make most rings, so a teaspoon's worth of ash is more than enough.  All unused ash is returned with your commission.

Can You Make Pet Ashes Jewellery ?

Pet cremation ashes work in exactly the same way as human ashes — they’re chemically the same material, just varying in volume depending on the size of the animal. Whether you’ve lost a horse, a dog, a cat, or something smaller, the ashes can be used in any of my standard techniques: fused into metal, set in resin, suspended in glass, or incorporated into a gemstone. For most people, a pet is every bit as much a member of the family as anyone else, and I treat every commission with the same care. Browse the full range of pet ashes jewellery to find the right piece.

Can You Shower or Swim Wearing Ashes Jewellery?

The jewellery itself is not affected by plain water, however it is best to remove the jewellery when swimming or showering. The sea has a degree of salt in it, which can affect silver jewellery. Swimming pools and jacuzzis have chemicals added that can affect 925 sterling silver and make it tarnish. When bathing, you may use a beauty product, shampoo or suchlike that might tarnish silver or chemically damage the resin in cremation ash jewellery. So whilst water itself is OK, it is the chemicals in the water that could damage your jewellery.

Can You Make Jewellery With Hair Instead Of Ashes?

Yes — I can incorporate hair into most pieces using the same techniques as cremation ashes. Hair can be set in resin, fused into a glass element, or sealed within a void in the metal, depending on the design you choose. It works particularly well in pendants and rings, and many people choose to combine a small amount of hair with ashes in a single piece. If you’d like to discuss a hair jewellery commission specifically, book a free consultation and we can talk through which technique would suit your chosen design best.

What Techniques Are Used to Make Cremation Ash Jewellery?

There are four ways that I can get your special ashes into jewellery. Each technique is appropriate for the design shown, so some techniques are not interchangeable.

TechniqueDescription
Infused in a special jewellers resinThe ashes are mixed with a special resin that is used to make jewellery. The mixture is then poured into a custom made piece and allowed to cure. Once the resin has cured, the jewellery is ready to be worn.
Infused into glass whilst it is in a molten stateThe ashes are mixed with molten glass. The glass is then slowly cooled and cut ready to be set into the jewellery. Once the glass has cooled, the jewellery is ready to be worn.
A void is created within a metal piece of jewellery and then laser weld shut. A small void is created within a metal piece of jewellery. The ashes are then laser welded into the void. Once the laser welding has been completed, the ashes inside are water and air tight. There but unseen
Inserted into a special cubic zirconia gemstone that I cut by handA small hole is drilled into a cubic zirconia gemstone. The ashes are then inserted into the hole. The hole is then sealed with a special resin. Once the resin has cured, the gemstone is ready to be set into a piece of jewellery.

How Much Does It Cost To Put Ashes Into A Necklace?

Ashes necklaces typically range from around £90 to £2,000 or more, depending on the precious metal, any gemstones included, and the complexity of the design. As a rough guide, most sterling silver pendants with ash sit between £90 and £250.The best way to get a precise figure is to browse the ashes necklace collection directly — every piece is listed with pricing across all metals: sterling silver, 9ct gold, 18ct gold, and platinum.

Is It OK To Wear Cremation Ash Jewellery Every Day?

Absolutely — and more people do than you might think. There’s no rule, no etiquette, and no wrong answer when it comes to how you carry someone with you. If wearing a piece of ashes jewellery brings you comfort, that’s reason enough.

From a practical standpoint, pieces made in precious metals and set correctly will stand up to daily wear. I’d just suggest removing your piece before swimming or showering (more on that above), and storing it carefully when not being worn. Beyond that, wear it as often as you like.
